Whether you have just begun your vacation or you are in the middle of a layover between flights, there are often occasions where we have time to kill in the airport. Many people consider these to be wasted hours, however airports can actually be a lot of fun if you have the right attitude! So instead of just sitting by your gate and waiting for your flight to be called, next time try some of these ideas.

Shop

Airport shopping can be a great way to pick up some useful travel items. From travel pillows and noise canceling headphones to books, snacks and duty-free products, there are plenty of bargains to be found. Plus, if you are in an airport abroad it is a fantastic chance to pick up some last minute souvenirs or local sweets. Even if you do not have the spare cash to spend, just browsing the stores and trying the free samples can be an enjoyable way to pass the time.

Eat and drink

Let’s be honest, airplane food can leave a lot to be desired! That is why it can be a good idea to have a proper meal at one of the airport cafes and restaurants, or pick up some snacks for your flight. These days there are many top quality eateries located in airports, so dining in one does not have to be a compromise. In fact, it can be a perfect opportunity to sample some local specialties!

Explore

Once you have sorted out your atlanta airport parking and checked in to your flight, instead of rushing straight to your gate take some time to explore the airport. Lots of airports have attractions of their own these days, such as the IMAX cinema in Hong Kong International Airport, the aquarium in Vancouver International Airport, the gardens at Singapore’s Changi Airport, and the ice rink in Munich International Airport. Just make sure you do not get so distracted that you miss your flight!

Be productive

If you are heading out on a business trip, the airport can be a great chance to get some work done thanks to the easy accessibility of free Wi-Fi. Alternatively, you could use the time to study, or learn some phrases in the language of the country you are traveling to. Another option is to use this time to contact friends and family back home and let them know how your journey is going. There are usually plenty of power sockets in airports these days, so you do not need to worry about draining your battery either.

Relax

The time you spend at the airport is part of your vacation, so why not treat it as such? Go for a drink in one of the bars, read a book over a coffee in a cafe, or watch a film on your laptop. You could even splash out on a massage! It is also the perfect moment to start getting excited about wherever you are heading, so you could always break out that guide book and plan the first few days of your trip!
