The other name for Social Anxiety Disorder is phobia. It relates to the phase where the person has intense anxiety which may crop up due to various factors such as the following:-

  • There is a lurking fear that others may judge the person
  • The person feels that he/she will be evaluated negatively 
  • Society will not welcome the person based on the poor performance of him/her

People who face social anxiety disorder has few visible traits such as 

  • Their facial features relates to being anxious and one can easily get to know the same
  • They blush or stammer while speaking
  • They themselves start viewing and creating thoughts that they are no longer needed in the society

Hence, due to the traits mentioned above, they usually avoid social gathering and their level of anxiety or distress is visibly high which isn’t a good sign.

There are various other people who also attain the phase as below

  • They experience high heart rate
  • They sweat a lot
  • They have nausea and they are also prone to full-blown attacks while facing an awkward situation

Ironically they know that their fear is certainly not required and that they shouldn’t worry about it, yet they seem to be helpless and this is how they seem to give in to the lurking threat or danger with regards to their anxiety

Social anxiety disorder is faced by whopping 15 million American adults. It stands second to the specific phobia. Teenage years are the most common age when there is a beginning to social anxiety disorder. Although, a big portion of those affected have reported of shyness in their childhood, yet it isn’t only about this specific trait. 

It is true that social anxiety disorder can simply make matters worse for those who are facing the same. Chances are high where individuals may not do certain jobs, just because their professional requirement is to talk to various people and they aren’t up for the same. Many of them also avoid going out with the fear that their hands will tremble and people will ask them the reason for the same. It is true, that there is no end to the symptoms which keep on increasing, if unchecked. It literally disrupts their daily life so much that they aren’t able to lead a normal life. 

They aren’t able to do the following:-

  • Work diligently in their professional duties
  • Can’t mingle with others as part of social life which they have
  • They have difficulties to continue with studies in presence of others
  • They get many failures in the interview sessions
  • They fail to get into romantic relationship

People who are facing the same are at high risk of getting into depression and often get into the habit of taking alcohol which further minimizes their chance of recuperation

The best thing is that there is an effective anxiety treatment, yet unfortunately many fail to get themselves consulted in the beginning and those who do are just 5%. Unfortunately, more than third of people continue to face symptoms for as long as 10 years, before they finally come out to seek assistance.
