Why is My Computer So Desperately Slow?

The computer devices are developed to make your job done automated and quickly to save your time. But it can become slow sometimes for several reasons. Though there are a lot of things that can make a computer slower, the main causes vary only a few.

Why is My Computer So Desperately Slow? If that’s your thoughts currently, then go through the below passages. This can be the reason that is making your PC sluggish. We will also let you know how to resolve the mentioned issues.

Small RAM Memory

The RAM (Random Access Memory) is one of the most important components of any computer system. It is the memory where the instructions are stored temporarily while you are running the programs. For such characteristics, it is also known as volatile memory. If you have a small RAM, then you may encounter a slow computer frequently.

Small RAM is not appropriate for these who run several apps like Microsoft Word, Chrome Browser, etc. together. You should have at least 4 GB RAM for a good performance of the PC. However, it would be best to have 8 GB of RAM on the PC. Fortunately, it is possible to add extra RAM on both Laptop and Desktop anytime.

If you have 2GB RAM on the PC, then you should upgrade to 4GB or 8GB. Also, make sure to use only the compatible RAM that arrives at the same bus speed. If you already have mentioned the size of RAM and your PC is still lagging, then the problem is caused by something else.

Not Enough Storage

The primary storage of any computer system is known as the hard drive. That’s the storage device where all of your data like docs, music, movies, and other things are stored. The PC can become slow when your storage is around 95% or full. The 15% to 20% space of your storage device should be empty all the time for a decent speed.

You can get rid of the old applications that you don’t require anymore by uninstalling them. Moreover, you can move the less needed files like pictures or videos to a removable storage device like a USB drive or SD Card. Also, delete the unnecessary temporary files from the temp and %temp% folder.

Too Many Background Apps

You may not know this but your PC is always running some applications in the background. Most of these apps are system app but there can also be third-party apps. As an example, Adobe, uTorrent, antivirus, etc. popular applications work in the background. These apps can significantly slow your computer.

There is an easy way to search the background applications. Open the task manager by clicking Alt+Crl+Delete together. There you will find the running apps on the PC under the preference tab. The apps that are not open on your PC are the background apps.

You can easily stop the background apps that are making your PC slow. Detect the apps from the task manager and then go to settings. Then visit the Background apps option from Privacy and select “Choose which apps can run in the background”. Now turn off the apps from here that you have detected on task manager.

Virus or Malware

Viruses, malware, spyware, etc. can also slow down your computer. These things can automatically install third-party applications on your PC and run them in the background. Some malware can also show you random advertisements and push notifications by taking control of your system. Your PC can become extremely slow by accommodating these malicious programs.

You can easily keep your PC safe from these viruses or cyber threats by using a proper antivirus. If you are using the Windows 10 OS, then the Windows Defender is enough to prevent any threats. Use an appropriate antivirus for the other operating systems. Run a full scan using the antivirus once in a while to detect the threats.

Old Operating System

Old Operating Systems like Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 no longer get optimization updates from the manufacturer. As a result, they become slow and shows other issues frequently. Moreover, when you use an OS for a long time, it can also cause issues like slow PC. That is because of so many corrupted files and other reasons.

It is recommended to use the latest version of the Operating System. You can also enjoy a better overall experience from the newer operating systems. As an example, Windows 10 OS can start 7 seconds faster than Windows 7. That is because Windows 10 includes all the latest technologies and optimization for a better user experience.

Browsers with Too Many Add-ons and Tabs

Your PC usually runs smoothly but whenever you begin a browser, it becomes slow. Well, that can happen because of using a poorly optimized browser. As an example, the chrome uses at least 20% more resources on your PC than Microsoft edge. Though Chrome offers you a better experience, you will need to dedicate the speed and smoothness.

Moreover, if you operate a large number of tabs and add-ons concurrently, this will also increase resource usage. Your browser may crash and hang apart from becoming slow in such situations. It is recommended to use a lightweight browser like Microsoft Edge for a faster speed in a low-config PC.

A slow PC can be a painful thing. But you don’t need to compromise with a slow PC. There are solutions for every reason that can make your PC slower. We hope you can detect the issues that are making your PC sluggish and solve them easily after reading the guide.
