Choose the Perfect Typeface for Your Packaging

In the era of modern packaging, the appearance of your boxes can either break your consumer’s heart or fill it with joy. Every product in this world is in their particular places because of all the small components that worked together to make it a whole experience. Similarly, successful packaging is obtained with its primary pillars; structure, representation and typeface.

The typeface is a scheme of lettering that embraces variations, namely bold, italic, regular and condensed, etc. And, typography basically is a strategy of arranging letters. It plays a crucial role in making your packaging quintessential. Many people fail to notice this detail and suffer in the market, but having the perfect typeface will reflect your brand’s individuality in the market.

It makes it simple for you and your customers to gauge whether your business will work and the product is worth buying, respectively.

Serif Typeface

This style has short strokes or lines at the end of letters, known as serifs. Hence, the name of this style is explained. You might have seen it in your newspaper, books, on the internet or in your document. This typeface is popular for increasing the readability and reading speed, and articulates a historic and traditional design.

Serif represents elegance and maturity for the reader and would put your product in the limelight if coated with foil stamping or embossing finishing methods. It makes your packaging look luxurious. You can adjust the font size according to your item to set the mood.

Sans Serif Typeface

The difference between serif typeface and sans serif typeface is that the latter does not support those extended strokes. It is a simple and contemporary style that excludes the unnecessary details. It can afford lively, amicable or even premium looks. You must have seen many brands using this font, especially Samsung, D&G and Nintendo, etc. It shows that from the gadget companies to fashion brands, everyone is using it to create a minimalist and state-of-the-art look for their business.

Script Typeface

This style evokes the memories of classic handwritten letters because of its varied, fluid strokes. You would be surprised to know that some script fonts link letterforms – the shape of a letter – while the other ones exhibit diverse stroke weights. It is multipurpose as you can use it for both casual and formal lettering, depending on the strokes and flourishing you prefer. You must have seen it on greeting cards or invites, etc.

As mentioned before, it is a player of various fashions, as KitKat uses it in a cool manner to give a chocolaty and vigorous vibe. In contrast, others have often used it to display their company’s aesthetic side.

Monospaced Typeface

It is the most disciplined typeface as each character stands at equal space, width and angle from the next one, whereas other classes can have varying means. It includes having both serifs and san serifs. It is also known as fixed-patch, fixed-width or non-proportional font.

It was made to cater to the needs of typewriters but it has occupied its place in the system programming. Regarding packaging, many retailers do not avail this typeface as it requires proper space. Nonetheless, you can use it for short texts or at certain places to make your name and other material distinctive.

Display Typeface

We would like our readers to guess for what you can use display typeface? Hint: Its use lies in its name. Yes, display typeface is used for display objectives. It is pretty versatile and can take the form of other classes as well.

They are not best for body texts, since it lowers the readability, but they are the best for headings and prominent details, such as titles. It is an attention-grabber and will do wonders for your packaging.

It is pertinent to mention that you also have to reflect on the type of material you are using because some coatings or material can blemish your boxes by spreading the ink or decreasing the typeface quality that can send an unpleasant message to the customer.

Choosing the right typeface style will take your brand to the heavens and will present you with a unique and loveable personality. Do not just create packaging but create memories with your style.
